About USD/CHF

USD/CHF, nicknamed the swissie, shows how many Swiss francs one US dollar buys: 0.88000 means 1 USD = 0.88 CHF. A pip is 0.0001.

The franc is one of the classic safe-haven currencies. Switzerland combines political stability, a long record of low inflation, a large current-account surplus and a big financial sector, so money tends to flow into the franc when investors are worried. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) does not always welcome that: a very strong franc hurts Swiss exporters, and the SNB has a long history of intervening in the currency market. Its scheduled monetary policy assessments take place only quarterly, so each one carries more weight than a typical meeting of a central bank that meets more often.

Because the Swiss economy is closely tied to the euro area, USD/CHF often moves roughly as a mirror image of EUR/USD: when the dollar strengthens broadly, both pairs show it, in opposite directions. The pair is most active during European hours and the overlap with New York. Drivers include Fed decisions and US data, SNB announcements, Swiss inflation and risk sentiment in general.

Alongside the real pair, Sky Trade offers USD/CHF OTC — a server-generated series that runs day and night and does not mirror the actual dollar-franc rate.

How to trade USD/CHF on Sky Trade

  1. 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
  2. 2Pick USD/CHF in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
  3. 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
  4. 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
  5. 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the payout on USD/CHF at Sky Trade?

The market version of USD/CHF pays 71–83% and the OTC version 53–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.

When can I trade USD/CHF?

The market version of USD/CHF is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.

Does USD/CHF OTC follow the real market?

No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real USD/CHF rate at any moment.

What is the minimum stake and expiry for USD/CHF?

The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.

Why does USD/CHF often move opposite to EUR/USD?

Both pairs contain the dollar, but on opposite sides, and the franc tends to follow the euro fairly closely. So a broad dollar move pushes EUR/USD and USD/CHF in opposite directions. The correlation is common, not constant.

How often does the SNB decide on interest rates?

The Swiss National Bank holds scheduled monetary policy assessments four times a year, although it can act between them.

Is the franc always a safe haven?

Usually, but not mechanically. SNB intervention or Swiss-specific news can make the franc weaken even during market stress.
