About EUR/USD
EUR/USD prices the euro, the shared currency of the euro area managed by the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt, against the US dollar, issued under the Federal Reserve. It is the most traded currency pair in the world and the textbook major pair: two huge economies, deep liquidity and a quote that reacts to important news from both sides of the Atlantic.
The number tells you how many dollars one euro buys. For example, a quote of 1.08500 means 1 EUR = 1.085 USD. When the pair rises, the euro is gaining on the dollar — or the dollar is losing ground, and the chart alone cannot tell you which. One pip is 0.0001; the fifth decimal in the terminal is a tenth of a pip, so a move from 1.08500 to 1.08512 is 1.2 pips.
Activity usually builds at the London open and is highest while London and New York are both trading; the Asian hours are typically calmer for this pair. The scheduled events that move it most are ECB and Fed rate decisions (and the press conferences after them), US non-farm payrolls, inflation data from the US and the euro area, and business surveys such as PMIs. Around these releases the price can jump several pips in seconds, which matters a lot on short expiries — check the economic calendar before you trade around them.
Sky Trade also lists EUR/USD OTC. That is a separate price series produced by Sky Trade's server around the clock; it does not follow the real euro-dollar rate, so ECB or Fed news has no effect on it.
How to trade EUR/USD on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick EUR/USD in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on EUR/USD at Sky Trade?
The market version of EUR/USD pays 74–86% and the OTC version 72–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade EUR/USD?
The market version of EUR/USD is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.
Does EUR/USD OTC follow the real market?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real EUR/USD rate at any moment.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for EUR/USD?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
Why is EUR/USD the most traded currency pair?
The dollar is the main currency of world trade and central-bank reserves, and the euro is the second. Banks, companies and investors exchange the two constantly, which gives the pair exceptional liquidity.
Does a rising EUR/USD always mean the euro is strong?
No. The pair also rises when the dollar weakens across the board. Comparing it with pairs such as USD/JPY or EUR/GBP at the same moment helps you see which side is actually moving.
Which releases move EUR/USD the most?
Usually ECB and Fed rate decisions, US non-farm payrolls and inflation figures from both economies. The surprise relative to expectations matters more than the number itself.
