EUR/CHF OTC is a separate price series generated by Sky Trade's server. It does not follow the real EUR/CHF exchange rate.

About EUR/CHF

EUR/CHF shows how many Swiss francs one euro buys: 0.95000 means 1 EUR = 0.95 CHF. A pip is 0.0001. Switzerland sits in the middle of Europe, and the euro area is its largest trading partner, so this is the exchange rate that matters most to the Swiss economy.

That is why the Swiss National Bank watches it so closely. A strong franc makes Swiss exports more expensive, and the SNB has repeatedly bought foreign currency to slow the franc's rise. It once went further: from 2011 it defended a minimum rate against the euro, and when it abandoned that floor without warning in January 2015 the franc jumped dramatically within minutes. The episode is a lasting reminder that a normally quiet pair can gap violently when policy changes.

In ordinary times EUR/CHF often trades in fairly narrow ranges. It tends to fall when European stress drives money into the franc — the euro-area debt crisis was a clear case — and to drift higher when the region is calm. The European session is where most of its activity happens; key events are SNB quarterly assessments, ECB decisions, Swiss and euro-area inflation, and political risk inside Europe.

Sky Trade also lists EUR/CHF OTC, a server-generated price stream available 24/7 that does not track the real euro-franc rate.

How to trade EUR/CHF on Sky Trade

  1. 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
  2. 2Pick EUR/CHF in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
  3. 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
  4. 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
  5. 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the payout on EUR/CHF at Sky Trade?

The market version of EUR/CHF pays 69–81% and the OTC version 84–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.

When can I trade EUR/CHF?

The market version of EUR/CHF is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.

Does EUR/CHF OTC follow the real market?

No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real EUR/CHF rate at any moment.

What is the minimum stake and expiry for EUR/CHF?

The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.

Why does the SNB care so much about EUR/CHF?

The euro area is Switzerland's biggest export market. If the franc becomes too strong against the euro, Swiss goods get expensive and inflation can fall too low, so the SNB has intervened in the past.

Is EUR/CHF a low-volatility pair?

Often, in normal conditions. But it can move abruptly on SNB surprises or European crises, as January 2015 showed.

What happened to EUR/CHF in January 2015?

The SNB unexpectedly dropped the minimum exchange rate it had defended since 2011. The franc surged within minutes, a move far larger than the pair's usual daily range.
