About EUR/GBP
EUR/GBP shows how many British pounds one euro buys: 0.85000 means 1 EUR = 0.85 GBP. A pip is 0.0001. It is a cross between two close neighbours whose economies are tightly linked by trade, finance and geography.
That closeness shapes the way the pair behaves. Many global events — a shift in US rates, a jump in oil, a wave of risk aversion — hit the euro and the pound in a similar way, so they partly cancel out in EUR/GBP. What remains is the relative story: is the European Central Bank more or less hawkish than the Bank of England? Is UK inflation running hotter than euro-area inflation? Are UK growth figures surprising more than European ones? As a result, EUR/GBP often moves in narrower ranges than the dollar majors, with bursts of activity around ECB and BoE meetings, UK CPI and labour data, and occasionally UK or EU politics.
Because both currencies live in European time zones, the London session is where nearly all the action is. During Asian hours and late in the US session the pair is usually quiet, and quiet can mean the price barely changes over a short expiry.
Unlike most pairs on Sky Trade, EUR/GBP has no OTC version — it is offered only as a market pair with real quotes, with a minimum expiry of 30 seconds.
How to trade EUR/GBP on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick EUR/GBP in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on EUR/GBP at Sky Trade?
EUR/GBP pays 72–84% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade EUR/GBP?
EUR/GBP is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. On weekends and holidays new trades are not accepted.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for EUR/GBP?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
Which session is most active for EUR/GBP?
The London session. Both currencies are European, so their data, central-bank decisions and the bulk of trading fall within European hours.
Why does EUR/GBP often move slowly?
Global news tends to affect the euro and the pound similarly, so much of it cancels out. The pair mostly reacts to differences between the ECB and the Bank of England and between UK and euro-area data.
Is there a EUR/GBP OTC on Sky Trade?
No. EUR/GBP is available only with real market quotes, so it cannot be traded while the forex market is closed.
