About CHF/JPY
CHF/JPY shows how many Japanese yen one Swiss franc buys: 170.000 means 1 CHF = 170 JPY. The pip is 0.01, so the quote runs to three decimals.
This is a meeting of two safe havens. The franc and the yen both tend to attract money when markets panic, which means CHF/JPY does not always react to a crisis the way you might expect: both sides may strengthen, and the pair can stay relatively flat while others swing. The difference often lies in the details — whether the stress is European (which tends to favour the franc) or global and carry-related (which often favours the yen).
Outside of crises, monetary policy does most of the work. The Swiss National Bank and the Bank of Japan have both run very low or negative rates in the past, so even small shifts in either bank's stance can matter. Japan's Ministry of Finance and the SNB have both intervened in currency markets, and such interventions produce abrupt moves. Tokyo trading covers the yen side; European hours bring Swiss data and the bulk of franc trading.
As for CHF/JPY OTC on Sky Trade, it is an independent series generated by Sky Trade's server around the clock and does not react to either central bank or to safe-haven flows.
How to trade CHF/JPY on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick CHF/JPY in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on CHF/JPY at Sky Trade?
The market version of CHF/JPY pays 68–80% and the OTC version 65–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade CHF/JPY?
The market version of CHF/JPY is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.
Does CHF/JPY OTC follow the real market?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real CHF/JPY rate at any moment.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for CHF/JPY?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
What happens to CHF/JPY when markets panic?
Both currencies are safe havens, so both may strengthen. The pair's direction then depends on which one attracts more money, and that varies from episode to episode.
Why is CHF/JPY quoted with three decimals?
The yen is the quote currency, and yen pairs use a pip of 0.01. The third decimal is a fraction of a pip.
