About BTC/USD
Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, launched in 2009 by an anonymous developer or group using the name Satoshi Nakamoto. It runs on a decentralised network secured by proof-of-work mining, and its protocol caps the total supply at 21 million coins. In the real market BTC/USD shows how many US dollars one bitcoin costs, and it trades on many exchanges around the clock.
On Sky Trade, BTC/USD is available only as an OTC instrument, and that changes everything. The price on the BTC/USD OTC chart is generated by Sky Trade's server; it does not track the real Bitcoin price on any exchange. A halving, an ETF headline or a sharp crypto sell-off will not appear on this chart, and the OTC value can be far from wherever real bitcoin happens to trade. You are not buying, selling or holding any bitcoin either: a trade is a fixed-payout Higher/Lower position on the generated price, settled in your account balance in US dollars.
The generator is a random-walk model with ticks every half-second. The direction of the next move is unpredictable, it has no built-in drift against traders, and its volatility changes slowly over time. Crypto-specific analysis — on-chain data, funding rates, exchange flows — therefore has no meaning here.
One practical point not to confuse: Sky Trade accepts BTC as a deposit currency through its payment processor. Depositing bitcoin is a real blockchain transfer; trading BTC/USD OTC is not.
How to trade BTC/USD on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick BTC/USD in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
