AUD/JPY OTC is a separate price series generated by Sky Trade's server. It does not follow the real AUD/JPY exchange rate.

About AUD/JPY

AUD/JPY shows how many Japanese yen one Australian dollar buys: 100.000 means 1 AUD = 100 JPY. As with all yen pairs, the pip is 0.01 and the price has three decimals.

AUD/JPY is the classic carry-trade pair. For long periods Australian interest rates were well above Japanese ones, so investors borrowed in yen and held Australian dollars to earn the difference. In calm markets that flow supports the pair; when fear hits, those positions are closed at the same time, and AUD/JPY can drop sharply in a short period. That is why many traders see it as a mirror of global risk appetite and stock-market mood.

The drivers are the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of Japan, Australian employment and inflation, Chinese economic data, metal prices and swings in equity markets. Both home markets sit in the Asia-Pacific time zones, so — unusually for a popular pair — the Asian session is where the most relevant news and a good share of trading take place; London and New York add moves driven by global sentiment.

Sky Trade lists a second version, AUD/JPY OTC. It is a separate series generated around the clock by Sky Trade's server, not the real cross, so carry flows and RBA decisions leave it untouched.

How to trade AUD/JPY on Sky Trade

  1. 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
  2. 2Pick AUD/JPY in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
  3. 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
  4. 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
  5. 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the payout on AUD/JPY at Sky Trade?

The market version of AUD/JPY pays 20–29% and the OTC version 64–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.

When can I trade AUD/JPY?

The market version of AUD/JPY is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.

Does AUD/JPY OTC follow the real market?

No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real AUD/JPY rate at any moment.

What is the minimum stake and expiry for AUD/JPY?

The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.

Why is AUD/JPY linked to stock markets?

Both respond to global risk appetite. When investors buy shares and higher-yielding assets, the AUD tends to gain against the yen; when they sell, carry trades unwind and the yen strengthens.

What does a carry-trade unwind look like on the chart?

Usually a fast, steep decline in AUD/JPY as many positions are closed at once. Such moves are hard to time and can wipe out a series of small wins.

Why does AUD/JPY have three decimals?

Yen pairs use 0.01 as one pip because the yen is a small unit; the third decimal is a fraction of a pip.
