About AUD/CAD
AUD/CAD shows how many Canadian dollars one Australian dollar buys: 0.90000 means 1 AUD = 0.90 CAD. The pip is 0.0001. Both are commodity currencies, but they depend on different commodities and different customers, and that difference is what this cross trades.
Australia lives off metals, coal and gas, and its biggest buyer is China. Canada lives off oil, and its biggest buyer is the United States. So AUD/CAD often reflects the balance between Chinese demand and metal prices on one side and crude oil and the US economy on the other: a rally in iron ore with flat oil tends to lift the pair, a jump in crude with weak Chinese data tends to push it down. Because both currencies react similarly to broad risk sentiment, part of that effect cancels out, and the pair can be slower than the dollar majors.
Policy differences between the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of Canada drive longer moves. Australian data comes out in the Asian session, Canadian data in the North American morning, so each side has its own news window; between them, liquidity is thinner.
AUD/CAD OTC is a separate instrument on Sky Trade: the server generates its price continuously, with no reference to commodities or to the real AUD/CAD rate.
How to trade AUD/CAD on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick AUD/CAD in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on AUD/CAD at Sky Trade?
The market version of AUD/CAD pays 68–80% and the OTC version 84–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade AUD/CAD?
The market version of AUD/CAD is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.
Does AUD/CAD OTC follow the real market?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real AUD/CAD rate at any moment.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for AUD/CAD?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
What moves AUD/CAD?
Relative commodity prices (metals versus oil), Chinese versus US demand, and the policy gap between the RBA and the Bank of Canada.
Why don't two commodity currencies simply move together?
They often react similarly to global risk mood, but they are tied to different commodities and different main customers. When metals and oil diverge, so do the AUD and the CAD.
