About GBP/NOK
On Sky Trade, GBP/NOK is an OTC-only instrument: the price is generated by Sky Trade's server around the clock and has no connection to the real pound–Norwegian krone market. The section below explains the real pair as background.
In the real world GBP/NOK shows how many Norwegian kroner one British pound buys: 14.00 would mean 1 GBP = 14.00 NOK. A pip is 0.0001, and the pair is displayed with four decimals. The two countries face each other across the North Sea and both produce oil and gas there, but energy matters far more to Norway's economy and currency than to Britain's. The krone, managed by Norges Bank, tends to follow oil prices and global risk mood; the pound, managed by the Bank of England, follows UK inflation, wages, growth and politics. The real cross is thinly traded compared with the majors, and its moves can be abrupt. Its most active time is the European session, when both Oslo and London are open.
GBP/NOK OTC is driven by none of this. Sky Trade's model produces a new tick every 0.5 seconds; each move is as likely to be up as down, and there is no drift built in for or against the trader. Studying Bank of England calendars or Brent crude will not help you read it.
How to trade GBP/NOK on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick GBP/NOK in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on GBP/NOK at Sky Trade?
GBP/NOK pays 84–94% of the stake on a winning trade; 94% applies when it is one of the two rotating OTC leaders. The terminal shows the current value before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade GBP/NOK?
GBP/NOK is available on Sky Trade only as an OTC instrument, so it can be traded 24/7, including weekends and holidays.
Does GBP/NOK OTC follow the real market?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real GBP/NOK rate at any moment.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for GBP/NOK?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
Why do oil prices matter more for the krone than for the pound?
Oil and gas make up a much larger share of Norway's exports and government revenue than of the UK's. In the real market that makes the krone more sensitive to energy prices.
Does a Bank of England decision move GBP/NOK OTC?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server and does not react to central banks, data releases or commodity prices.
