About CAD/JPY
CAD/JPY shows how many yen one Canadian dollar buys: 110.000 means 1 CAD = 110 JPY. The pip is 0.01, and the quote has three decimals.
The pair has an unusually clean link to oil. Canada exports large amounts of crude; Japan imports almost all of its energy. A rising oil price therefore tends to help the Canadian dollar and to hurt Japan's trade balance at the same time, so both sides push CAD/JPY in the same direction. Falling oil works the other way. Add the yen's safe-haven role — it often strengthens when markets are nervous — and CAD/JPY becomes a pair that reacts to both energy prices and risk mood.
Scheduled drivers include Bank of Canada and Bank of Japan decisions, Canadian CPI and employment data, Japanese inflation, and oil-market events such as weekly US inventory figures and OPEC+ meetings. Japanese news arrives in the Tokyo session; Canadian news and most oil news arrive in the North American session. Between those windows CAD/JPY often moves with the broader market rather than on its own news.
CAD/JPY OTC on Sky Trade should not be confused with the real cross: it is generated by Sky Trade's server 24/7 and does not respond to oil or to either central bank.
How to trade CAD/JPY on Sky Trade
- 1Open the terminal and choose the demo account to practise, or the real account if you have deposited.
- 2Pick CAD/JPY in the instrument list — the market and OTC versions are listed separately, each with its current payout.
- 3Set the stake and the expiry: a duration (for example 1 minute) or an exact closing time.
- 4Press Buy if you expect the price at expiry to be above the entry price (a “higher” trade), or Sell if you expect it below (a “lower” trade). The payout is fixed at the moment you open.
- 5At expiry the server compares the closing price with the entry price: in your direction — stake plus payout; against you — the stake is lost; exactly equal — the stake is refunded.
Frequently asked questions
What is the payout on CAD/JPY at Sky Trade?
The market version of CAD/JPY pays 67–79% and the OTC version 84–94% of the stake on a winning trade. The exact value changes slowly over time; the terminal shows it before you open a trade, and it stays fixed for that trade.
When can I trade CAD/JPY?
The market version of CAD/JPY is available Monday to Friday while the forex market is open and real quotes are arriving. The OTC version is available 24/7, including weekends.
Does CAD/JPY OTC follow the real market?
No. The OTC price is generated by Sky Trade's server with a random-walk model and is not taken from any bank or exchange, so it can differ from the real CAD/JPY rate at any moment.
What is the minimum stake and expiry for CAD/JPY?
The minimum stake is $1 and the maximum is $50,000 (default limits). Expiry ranges from 5 seconds on OTC and 30 seconds on market pairs up to 4 hours.
Why is CAD/JPY sensitive to oil prices?
Canada is a major oil exporter and Japan a major energy importer. Higher oil tends to strengthen the CAD and weaken Japan's trade position, so both effects lift CAD/JPY.
What is one pip in CAD/JPY?
0.01 — for example, a move from 110.000 to 110.010. The third decimal is a tenth of a pip.
